A live-action series of the popular Playstation exclusive IP, The Last of Us, is bound for HBO, under the umbrella of Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.

The series will take after the game, which takes place 20 years after a pandemic radically wipes out most of civilization on the planet. Infected humans run wild and survivors are killing each other for food and weapons. The show will center on Joel, a survivor, who smuggles a 14-year-old girl, Ellie, out of a military quarantine zone, and soon finds the two bound for a brutal journey across the United States.

Mazin is best known for having written the HBO miniseries, Chernobyl (2019) and 2011’s The Hangover: Part II. He’s currently serving as the scribe for the upcoming still-untitled Pirates of the Caribbean film, as well as the much-anticipated adaptation of Cowboy Ninja Viking.

Druckmann has served as the primary storyteller on The Last of Us, including the upcoming sequel, as well as a few titles in the Uncharted franchise as well.

No news yet as to when production begins, let alone a cast, but fans are already carving out who they would love to see play the two titular characters in the upcoming HBO series, including, among others, Hugh Jackman as Joel, and Sophia Lillis as Ellie. Stay tuned!

The Last of Us was recently remastered and is available now, while The Last of Us II is currently slated for release on PS4 on May 29, 2020.
