Excecutive VP of Warner Animation Group, Allison Abbate, announced that Warner Bros. are taking advantage of their 20+ year partnership with Funko and have opted to produce a film based on the vinyl figures.

Funko released it’s first line of Pop! figures back in 2011 and has been going strong ever since. With figures ranging from the Avengers, Looney Tunes, Married with Children, Wonder Woman, Breaking Bad, Monsters Inc., Game Of Thrones, among others, the list continues, on and on.

Not only is the company adding new licenses on a daily basis, but it is also constantly adding new characters to its original lines such as, Fantastik Plastik and Wetmore Forest. It has also expanded the Wetmore line to include plushies, animated shorts and a Barnes & Noble exclusive children’s book series.

It is important for Brian Mariotti, CEO of Funko, that the company shows off its original cast of characters in this movie.

“We have some amazing toy lines coming up with our own look, our own feel, our own characters, and our own backstories.”

Warner Bros. has brought in Oscar-nominated director Teddy Newton to work on the storyline, as well as Mark Dindal, a seasoned Disney Animation director, to helm the project.

The company is not afraid of exploring different digital methods to grow the brand. Since 2016, Funko has been bringing the fun to your home with its own original podcast, the Funko Funkast, which, each week, the latest news regarding the company is reported from Everett, Wash., Funko HQ. The show is hosted by Marketing Manager Chris Sully, who is joined by Senior Manager of Social Media, Cameron Duel, Writer/Director of Video Production, Dima Levanchuk, Marketing and Video Production Manager, Hilary Gray and Marketing Specialist, Ashley Anderson.

The company has also utilized animated video shorts to propel the brand, in conjunction with subscription services like, Amazon mystery boxes, Smuggler’s Bounty and Marvel Collector Corps. Most recently, it launched the Freddy Funko Show, tabbing Freddy with his trusty co-host, Huckleberry Hound, in interviewing some of pop-culture’s biggest icons.

There is no news so far as to when production will begin, but stay updated on all things Funko, via its YouTube channel and right here, at Galaxtic Pop!
