Aspen Comics’ FATHOM & SOULFIRE to Get Animated Films at Mythos Studios
October 24, 2019A new animated universe is launching, based on the late Michael Turner‘s Aspen Comics creations, Fathom and Soulfire, and will be adapted by Mythos Studios, courtesy of David Maisel and Scooter Braun, who have plans of a three-film slate.
Both Maisel and Braun will begin what they are dubbing, the MythoVerse, a cinematic universe of stories and characters inspired by classic Roman and Greek mythology. Two of the films will center on Turner’s creations, Fathom and Soulfire, in what is hoped will strive forward with crossover events and eventual sequels as well. Directors Kevin Adams and Joe Ksander will spearhead the films.
Fathom actually launched in 1998, at Image Comics, before moving over to Aspen Comics, which Turner founded, in 2004, becoming the flagship series at the publisher. The book follows Aspen Matthews, a young marine biologist, who learns she is actually one of an advanced underwater species which has the power to control water. The species, the Blue, rely on her, as do humans, while she literally holds the fate of both in the palms of her hands. Kristin Gore will pen the script, who is actually the daughter of former vice president and climate advocate, Al Gore.
Co-writers Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt will tackle the screenplay for Soulfire, which is a series that made its debut in an issue of Wizard Magazine in 2003, but was thereafter published at Aspen Comics. It is a series centered on Malikai, an orphan who is linked to an ancient form of magic, long since forgotten. He, along with his companions, battle the dark lord of technology in an effort to return magic to the world and protect it at all costs.
As of right now, neither film has a release date, but stay tuned to Galaxtic Pop for production news!
