An upcoming reimagining (not a sequel) for Anaconda is coming per Sony/Columbia Pictures, as Evan Daugherty has been tabbed to pen the script.

The upcoming film will be based on 1997’s Anaconda, in which a documentary film crew travels to the Amazon to record a never-before-seen tribe, but along the expedition, become forced to deal with not only a murderous snake hunter, but also giant man-eating snakes as well. It starred Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight, Ice Cube, Eric Stoltz and Owen Wilson.

Though being hailed as a B-Horror creature feature, it was a hit with audiences. It also saw two straight-to-VOD sequels spawn out of it in 2004’s Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid and Anaconda 3: Offspring, which dropped in 2008.

Daugherty is best known for having written the screenplay to Snow White and the Huntsman (2012). He also wrote the 2014 reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the story for 2018’s Tomb Raider. He is also co-writing the upcoming third installment in the Snow White saga, Rose Red, which was just recently announced, as well.
