In a continuing trend in creating live-action adaptations of its most-famous animated films, Disney now has its sights set on giving the same treatment to Bambi.

The upcoming film will be based on 1942’s Bambi, a coming-of-age story that will tug at your heartstrings, in which a fawn loses its mother and must navigate the forest, but picks up some new friends along the way in, a bunny (Thumper), skunk (Flower) and the wise Friend Owl.

Both Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Beer have been tabbed in penning the screenplay, while the production company behind it will be Depth of Field, run by Chris and Paul Weitz and Andrew Miano.

The live-action adaptation will follow in the success of The Lion King and Aladdin, while there are also ones coming for Pinocchio, The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan as well.

Robertson-Dworet is best known for having written the screenplays for both Tomb Raider (2018) and, most-recently, 2019’s Captain Marvel. She has numerous projects coming over the next few years, including currently writing for both Dungeons & Dragons and Silver Sable, a standalone film out of the pages of Spider-Man.

Beer is currently writing yet another Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Short Circuit, both reboots, and also wrote Chaos Walking, which is expected out this year. She’s also working on Silver Sable with Robertson-Dworet.
