Original Cast and Director Confirmed to Return for LETHAL WEAPON 5

A fifth and final installment in the Lethal Weapon franchise is coming and will return original director Richard Danner, including the duo of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as well.

The upcoming film will presumably be a continuation of the franchise that launched in 1987 with Lethal Weapon, wherein two newly-paired detectives, Martin Riggs (Gibson) and Roger Murtaugh (Glover), who are complete opposites, are forced to put aside their respective differences in order to catch a gang of drug smugglers.

The series continued with Lethal Weapon 2 (1989) in bringing Joe Pesci into the fold as an informant, Leo Getz, of which he would also reprised his roles in both Lethal Weapon 3 (1992) and Lethal Weapon 4 (1998). The latter two films also introduced Lorna Cole (Rene Russo) to the franchise as well. Whether Pesci or Russo are considered as part of the ‘original cast returning’ has yet to be clarified.

In 2016, the Lethal Weapon television series launched, starring Damon Wayans, as Murtaugh, and Clayne Crawford, as Riggs, who was later replaced by Seann William Scott, as Det. Wesley Cole. The show ran for 55 episodes, culminating with the series finale in 2019.
