An upcoming science fiction film titled, B, is set to be the first to rely on a robot of artificial intelligence as its lead actor, a robot named, Erica.

The film will be based on the original story by Eric Pham, Sam Khoze and Tarek Zohdy, in which a scientist discovers potentially-dangerous repercussions found within a program he created that perfects human DNA. Utilizing his tech and methods, he helps an A.I. woman, whom he also created, named Erica, escape.

Erica was born for this role, literally, as the scientists who created her, Hiroshi Ishiguro and Kohei Ogawa, taught her to act! She has principles of method acting built into her A.I., which allows her to dictate emotion.

“In other methods of acting, actors involve their own life experiences in the role, but Erica has no life experiences. She was created from scratch to play the role,” said Khoze. “We had to simulate her motions and emotions through one-on-one sessions, such as controlling the speed of her movements, talking through her feelings and coaching character development and body language.”

Filming for the project has intially begun, as a handful of scenes starring Erica have already been collected, but production is expected to amp up in early 2021, with eyes for a release later that year or in early 2022.
