Godzilla fans rejoice! After 70 years the King of Monsters has FINALLY brought home the gold and won an Oscar!

It was some pretty stiff competition at this year’s Oscars, sparingly Poor Things took a majority of the hardware, but no surprise that Godzilla: Minus One won best visual effects! And not only was Minus One the first Godzilla film to win an Oscar, but it is also the first Japanese film ever to be nominated and win best visuals.

Director Takashi Yamazaki said in his acceptance speech, “The moment we were nominated, we felt like Rocky Balboa welcomed into the ring as equals by our biggest rivals, which was already a miracle. But, here we stand.”

Yamazaki was joined on stage with the entire visual effects crew, and they weren’t just making headlines with their win. Their footwear was also the talk of the red carpet!

Godzilla: Minus One has broken multiple records along with being the highest grossing Japanese language film, earning $56 millions dollars in North America alone!
