Elizabeth Banks, Mindy Kaling and Issa Rae All Have HBO MAX Series in Works
October 29, 2019The trio of Elizabeth Banks, Mindy Kaling and Issa Rae are all bringing their own respective shows to the arsenal of content that HBO Max is building ahead of its debut in 2020.
Kaling’s college roommates show, as of right now, is the only straight-to-series order at the upcoming streaming service, while the projects from both Banks, who is adapting a DC Comics show about its characters, and Rae, who has a hip-hop group show in the works, are both currently in development.
Banks is developing DC Super Hero High, which will serve as a half-hour comedy that centers on a group of gifted students at a boarding school for kids with extraordinary powers who will all become legendary superheroes (or villains) one day.
Rae’s show, which currently has a working title of Rap Sh*t, will center on an all-female hip-hop group, based in Miami, who is trying to make it in the music industry.
College Girls, from Kaling, is set to debut as a 13-episode pilot season and follows three 18-year-old freshman roommates, all sexually active, lovable and infuriating.
HBO Max is currently slated to launch in May of 2020.
