The Star Wars canon is expanding at Disney+ with another upcoming series, of which filmmaker Leslye Headland has been tabbed to helm.

As expected, much is still being withheld about the upcoming series, but it is rumored that the project will be set in a different timeline of the Star Wars universe, while also being female-centric.

The news comes on the heels of the recent announcements that The Mandalorian has landed a third season, while the Cassian Andor/Rogue One spinoff has begun casting as well.

Headland is best-known for writing 16 episodes of the Netflix Original Series, Russian Doll (2019-20), which garnered 13 award nominations. She made her directorial debut in 2012 with Bachelorette, a film she also wrote. She also wrote/directed indie favorites like, Sleeping with Other People (2015) and About Last Night (2014).

There is plenty of speculation as to who or what the show could center on, but here’s to hoping it finally brings a live-action adaptation of Doctor Aphra to our screens!
