The live-action adaptation of Sweet Tooth, which was previously tabbed for Hulu, has found a new home at Netflix, including a straight-to-order pilot season.

The upcoming show’s debut season will consist of eight episodes, each an hour-long, and will be based on the original graphic novel, Sweet Tooth, by writer and artist, Jeff Lemire, which was published DC Comics‘ imprint, Vertigo Comics, from 2009-13.

The book tells the story of Gus, a half-boy/half-deer, who leaves his forest home and comes across a post-apocalyptic world in which he joins with other animal-like children hybrids in an attempt to find out what happened to the world, but also in figuring out his own origin story.

The core cast includes: Will Forte, James Brolin, Nonso Anozie, Adeel Akhtar and Christian Convery, as the titular character of Gus.

The series comes from executive producers Robert Downey Jr and his wife, Susan, while both Jim Mickle and Beth Schwartz will serve as the scribes and co-showrunners.

After losing the Marvel library to Disney+ in 2019, the streaming giant continues to claim fan-favorite independent comic books to adapt, including ones in the works with both Millarworld and Boom! Studios.
