A 6-year-old Arkansas girl, Vivian Lord, who started a letter campaign to see BMC Toys‘ iconic green Plastic Army Men figurines develop a women’s line as well, will have her wish granted!

Vivian’s letter read, “My name is Vivian. I am six years old. Why do you not make girl army men? My friend’s mom is in the Army to so why don’t you make them?”

She would constantly ask her mother why the toy line didn’t manufacture female characters, until her mother encouraged her to write the company a letter.

“I always believed that the product would be worthwhile, but that it could take a long time — years — to recoup the initial investment,” President Jeff Imel said. “I’m humbled and grateful to be part of this story.”

Imel has also said since people have learned about about his Plastic Army Women, they’ve been asking about Navy, Air Force and Marine soldiers, as well. He plans on launching a crowd-funding campaign in November to help expand the line.

The company continues to track its progress in its Plastic Army Women project in anticipation of its launch in December of 2020 [Update 1, Update 2, Update 3].

The toys will go on sale next holiday season and will be available via the BMC online store and on Amazon.
