The true crime story of Candy Montgomery is being adapted with Elisabeth Moss being enlisted to play her in a made-for-television limited series, from Universal Content Productions.

The TV miniseries, which has yet to be pitched to potential television or streaming platform(s), is set in 1980s Texas. It follows Montgomery, who seemingly had it all, a loving husband, two kids and a great job, but one day decided to kill her neighbor and church friend, Betty Gore, with an ax.

The script was penned by Robin Veith, who will executive produce the project alongside Nick Antosca, Lindsey McManus and Moss.

Moss appeared in the breakout Universal Monster film, The Invisible Man, this year and has two major film projects forthcoming in, The French Dispatch and Run Rabbit Run. She also will join the cast of The Handmaid’s Tale in early 2021 to continue filming on the fourth season of the Hulu exclusive series.
