The all-star team of original TMNT co-creators, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, along with Tom Waltz and Andy Kuhn, are bringing to life a gut-wrenching story of family and loss, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin.

The upcoming five-issue, limited series event, which stems from a story arc that was developed in 1987, will imagine a future in which there remains a lone turtle to defend New York City, as he sets out on a mission to seek justice for his fallen family and friends.

“A little over a year ago, as the ongoing series headed towards issue No. 100, I showed a rough revised-and-updated version of the story outline (now set in the year 2040) to Tom, who equally fell in love with the possibilities of it,” said Eastman. “The Last Ronin is a heartfelt love poem to all the TMNT universes of the past, and offers up an intense look at one possible future — firmly based on and adapted from an original 33-year-old idea, from the original creators. Trust me — Tom, Andy and I have just started on a 200-page journey … and it IS going to be one HELL of a ride!”

Each of the five issues in the series will tell the 33-year-old revised story arc in oversized format, spanning over 200 pages in total. This book promises to serve as one of the most-memorable that fans will ever read.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin #1 (of 5) is expected to release at some point this summer.
