In continuing to expand its publishing program and multimedia presence, Scout Comics has announced that both David Byrne and Charles Stickney have been promoted to co-publishers.

The move allows for James Pruett, the CCO, as well as CEO Brendan Deneen, to focus on pushing the publisher’s bookstore market, series merchandising, as well as continue to adapt the foreign language market as well.

Byrne garnered the promotion in just under a year, having started as a production designer at the company in 2019. He’s spent most of his career, one that span over two decades, in indie comic sales. He’s known for such comic book series as, Stake and The Couch.

For Stickney, who currently pens the ongoing White Ash comic at the publisher, the mission is simple, having a ‘creator-first’ approach, while empowering writers and artists to bring their vision to the marketplace. He has spent the last 20 years writing and producing animation, film and television, including having spearheaded Horrible Histories for Scholastic Entertainment. He currently has an active Indiegogo campaign for a new comic, The Adept, which has far-exceeded its initial goal round and has been backed by well-over 800 people. The book centers on a young woman, who is visited by a Shaolin Master in her dreams, while serving as a modern transformation story and of course, kung-fu.

The two new co-publishers join an executive team of Pruett, Deneen, James Haick (president), CSO Tennessee Edwards and Don Handfield (CMO). Together, all are working toward exponentially expand the publishing and multimedia company.

Scout already has an extensive catalog of over 100 comic book series, including a select few which have already been optioned for film and TV.
