Valiant Announces Virtual Portfolio Review to Help Aspiring Creators Grow
July 1, 2020In maintaining compliance with social distancing during the pandemic, Valiant Entertainment has unveiled plans for an exclusive virtual portfolio review program to help aspiring comic book creators.
The program is to help better serve and nurture comic book creators in helping them grow, find their voice and continue to create and complete future projects. The open-call portfolio review session will see 10 creative teams selected on two dates in July and the virtual one-on-one review sessions will consist of the creators, along with two of the publisher’s editorial staples, either Heather Antos or Lysa Hawkins.
“With convention season on pause due to the pandemic, it’s been important to us at Valiant to continue the outreach with both fans and creators, alike, that we would normally be able to do in person – and that includes one-on-one portfolio reviews with up-and-coming talent,” stated Antos. “Furthermore, we recognize that not every creator out there has the means or ability to travel to conventions, and it’s important to us to be as accessible as possible to those creators looking to get their feet in the door.”

Dates of Digital Portfolio Reviews
- Thursday, July 9 from 12-2pm (EST)
- Friday, July 10 from 12-2pm (EST)
How to Submit
- Email submissions to: portfolioreview@valiantentertainment.com
- Subject line: Name, Discipline, Available Date.
- Subject line example: Ray Garrison, Cover Artist, July 9-10.
- Please note: Submissions should be a single PDF document with an information page in the back that includes your name, a link to your online portfolio, and your contact information.
Submission Deadline
- For the July 9 Session: Wednesday, July 8 at 12pm (EST).
- For the July 10 Session: Thursday, July 9 at 12pm (EST).
- Those selected will be notified by Wednesday, July 8, and Thursday, July 9, no later than 10pm (EST).
Submission Suggestions
- Interior artists: Feature action beats and talking heads.
- Letterers: Include a variety of genres and SFX.
- Colorists: Present covers and interiors.
- All submitters: Include no more than 15 pages of materials.
Creators are encouraged to carefully read all the instructions before submitting their respective series. The publisher’s senior editors will select 10 creative teams for each day during the portfolio reviews, July 9-10, 2020.
