Marvel Studios has reportedly undergone changes to the title of the fifth Avengers film, “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” removing the character’s name entirely as part of a retooling process behind the scenes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources indicate that Avengers 5 will no longer bear the title, “The Kang Dynasty.” Marvel’s decision reportedly stems from efforts to diminish the character’s prominence following Jonathan Majors’ dismissal subsequent to his conviction, a move catalyzed by the underperformance of the Kang-centric “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” at the box office.

In the wake of Majors’ conviction on December 18 for one count of assault and one count of harassment, Disney swiftly severed ties with the actor. However, Disney has not disclosed whether Kang, portrayed by Majors in the MCU, will be recast or if the character will be sidelined in favor of a different narrative direction.

Kang the Conqueror was introduced as a significant threat in the Loki Season 1 finale and played a pivotal role in Quantumania, the inaugural film of Phase 5. The expectation was for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty to feature Kang prominently as the next major antagonist following Thanos.

The latest reports shed light on Marvel’s plans for upcoming Avengers movies, including the now-untitled Avengers 5, scheduled for release in 2026, and its sequel Avengers: Secret Wars, set for 2027. Marvel is reportedly reworking these stories to either reduce Kang’s presence or eliminate him altogether.

Variety previously indicated that Marvel executives were contemplating a shift from Kang to Doctor Doom following Majors’ legal troubles. Doctor Doom, the sovereign ruler of Latveria, has long been a formidable adversary in the Marvel Universe since his debut in 1962, and speculation suggests his potential introduction into the MCU.

In 2024, the sole MCU film scheduled for release is the newly titled “Deadpool & Wolverine,” slated for July 26 as part of Phase 5. The film appears to be laying groundwork for “Avengers: Secret Wars” and even includes a subtle Easter egg in its trailer, referencing one of Marvel’s best-selling comic books.
