Netflix Sets Largest Budget to Date for the Russo Brother’s THE GRAY MAN
July 17, 2020Having recently tacked on another 10 million subscribers, Netflix, in its most-ambitious move yet, has set a massive $200 million budget for an upcoming action thriller, starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, while being helmed by Joe and Anthony Russo in, The Gray Man.
The film will be based on the novel, The Gray Man, from author Mark Greaney, which centers on a duel between a contract killer, Court Gentry, played by Gosling, who is being tracked all over the globe by a CIA agent, Lloyd Hansen (Evans), who is also a former colleague as well.
“The movie is a real mano-a-mano between those two great actors, who represent two different versions of the CIA, in what it can be, and what it can do,” said A. Russo. “For those who were fans of Captain America: Winter Soldier, this is us moving into that territory in more of a real world setting. That’s what this movie really means for us.”
The brothers will spearhead producing duties, per their company, AGBO Films, having already announced a sequel to the breakout, Extraction, starring Chris Hemsworth, which quickly jumped to the streaming service’s most-watched original film, ever. Similarly, the hope by all involved is for the film to bud into a franchise centered on the assassin.
Gosling has been named in a few upcoming projects for next year, but his biggest will be in tackling the titular character of The Wolfman.
Evans, aka Captain America, currently has a an Apple TV+ exclusive series in Defending Jacob, while he is also rumored to be linked to the reboot of Little Shop of Horrors and will also appear in Bermuda Triangle.
Next up for the brothers Russo, a laundry list of projects, including a live-action adaptation of Walt Disney‘s Hercules and two television series, both live-action adaptations, one of the popular tabletop game, Magic: The Gathering, and, the other, Quantum and Woody, a Valiant Entertainment original graphic novel.
Filming is currently expected to begin on The Gray Man in January of 2021.
