The long-rumored Resident Evil live-action scripted-series in the works at Netflix was (finally) confirmed today and will be helmed by Constantin Film, in conjunction with both Capcom and the streaming service.

Similar to the fan-favorite video game series, the show will follow two main characters, both on a parallel path, but across two-different timelines.

The first timeline will follow sisters Jade and Billie Wesker, both 14-years-old, who have relocated to New Raccoon City. The more time the two spend out in the streets, the more they begin to realize that the manufactured town is more than it seems, while their father and his new job, may be concealing dark and malicious secrets, which could destroy the world.

Jumping to the next timeline, which propels the family over a decade into the future, there are only 15 million people left on Earth, while six billion are now infected and flesh-eating monsters, thanks to the T-Virus. Jade, who is now 30-years-old, navigates the world, while secrets from her past, specifically her sister and father, continue to catch up to her.

Resident Evil is my favorite game of all-time. I’m incredibly excited to tell a new chapter in this amazing story and bring the first ever Resident Evil series to Netflix members around the world,” said Dabb. “For every type of Resident Evil fan, including those joining us for the first time, the series will be complete with a lot of old friends and some things (bloodthirsty, insane things) people have never seen before.”

The video game, which is nearly 25 years old, has seen more than 100 million copies of its seven titles sold, worldwide, while having generated over $1.2 billion, making it the most-successful gaming franchise ever.

The pilot season of Resident Evil will be comprised of eight, 1-hour episodes and will stream exclusively on Netflix. Stay tuned for updates! The eighth installment in the RE video game franchise, Village, is currently slated for a 2021 release. The revamped RE3 is available now.
